The gastronomic team goes to great lengths to carry out Celebrity’s ambitious vision for providing a “food as art” experience on each of its ships. The team adheres to a meticulous and results-driven culinary formula: expert professionals, superior-quality ingredients, and creatively designed menus and restaurant interiors. The result is a tantalizing mix of the most original dining venues afloat.
The culinary staff is made up of more than 2,500 chefs from about eighty countries. They originate from Michelin Star restaurants, five-diamond hotels, and five-star resorts, each bringing his or her personal experiences, tastes, and culinary points of view to the table.
Leading the culinary brigade is James Beard featured chef, Cornelius Gallagher, whose efforts are supported by the leadership team in the Miami office, which includes the Food and Beverage Operations staff, inventory and purchasing teams, corporate chefs, wine experts, and more.
Celebrity’s chef-recruitment process is marked by intense scrutiny. Once a candidate is selected, he or she goes through a three-level screening process that begins with a reputable local hiring agency, followed by the cruise line’s human resources team, then the shoreside culinary management team. For senior positions, candidates are flown in from all over the world to the cruise line’s test kitchen in Miami, where their hands-on skills, expertise, standards, creativity, and attention to detail are evaluated.
The ingredients used undergo similar scrutiny. Celebrity’s kitchens create delicate, fragile, exotic, and unique flavor profiles using solely top-quality ingredients—sun-ripened berries, tropical fruits, black truffles, and imported caviar, for example. Experts judge ingredients on criteria such as region, environmental friendliness, and transportation methods. It all leads to a vast array of flavors and an unrivaled dining experience at sea. At the Main Restaurant, dine on a range of global cuisines delivered with impeccable service. AquaClass guests enjoy complimentary breakfast and dinner at Blu, an intimate and elegant venue that serves flavorful dishes with nutritiously indulgent fare. At Oceanview Café, a buffet provides classic and modern dishes from around the world, open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night snacks. Some of the notables include Murano, where classic French dishes provide the inspiration for a menu that features an expansive selection of artisanal cheeses and an extensive American and French wine list. Silk Harvest blends Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and Vietnamese cuisine. Tuscan Grille is a lively steak house with a succulent selection of pastas, seafood, salads, and meat. We all have those moments when we don’t want to think too hard about what we’re going to eat. For guests who want no-fuss, easy dining, Celebrity has just the thing for you. Start with Bistro on Five, a French-inspired café with a selection of panini, salads, soups, and desserts. Café al Bacio & Gelateria serves Italian gelato, sorbetto, and an irresistible array of espresso, cappuccino, macchiato, and lattes. At the Lawn Club on Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection, The Porch has quick, simple fare like salads and panini.
Gastrobar Aboard Celebrity Equinox, Gastrobar combines a wide array of craft beers with a scrumptious selection of comfort foods, resulting in a delight for your taste buds. The wide-ranging beer list boasts more than forty hoppy choices, so there’s something for the dark-lager lovers and the fruit-garnished-ale hounds alike. If beer just isn’t your drink of choice, don’t fret: Gastrobar also serves fine wines and interesting cocktails.
